Further details of InfoMed are available at www.infomed.org.pk My responsibilities as Assistant Professor Orthopaedic Surgery, Karachi Medical and Dental College and Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi, Pakistan: Karachi Medical and Dental College is graduate medical college, which is run by city Metropolitan Corporation. My responsibilities included lectures, tutorials and bed-side training of medical students of clinical side. Besides I was also responsible for designing examination formats for students in collaboration with senior teachers. Abbasi Shaheed hospital is a postgraduate teaching institute for fellowship training, attached to Karachi Medical College. This is also under the city Metropolitan Corporation and third largest hospital of the city in government sector. The hospital has a bed strength is 800. The department of Orthopaedic Surgery has 70 beds. The department has round the clock emergency, 4 out patient clinics and 4 operating days each week. Patient turn over in OPD is 200 each day, out of which at least 25 are referred to me. I used to perform about 4 operations on each operating day, which included all categories. For emergency cover, I was on-call on 3 days a week. The majority of patients are trauma cases, which comprises about 75% of total workload. Cold cases include congenital conditions, infections, degenerative conditions, metabolic disorders and tumours. Operative Experience: Fixation of appendicular skeleton with diaphysial plating, intramedullary nailing, femoral neck fixation with compression screws or DHS, external fixation, Ilizarov fixator, epiphyseal fixations, K-wire fixations etc Cold cases include congenital TEV, tendon transfers for paralytic disorders like poliomyelitis and CP, hemi and total hip arthrthroplasty, osteotomies, arthrodesis, tumour surgery, peripheral nerve repair, recurrent dislocation of shoulder, distraction osteogenesis for limb length inequality using Ilizarov ring fixator etc. PERSONAL DETAILS NAME DR.
